Given her previous solid track record of corporate and business partnering experiences working amongst global organizations and MNCs with senior stakeholders and driving through business and organizational goals, she is able to successfully broaden her reach of clients spanning across industries from Financial-Services, Banking, Wealth Management to Hospitality, Telecommunications, Oil and Gas, Manufacturing, Technology and Start-ups. Along which, she coaches employees and teams across all business functions ranging from sales, marketing, business management to finance, operations, IT, R&D, project management, risk and compliance, HR, communications etc.

    Type and Style of Coaching

Lynette believes very much in evidence-based coaching and uses a myriad of tools and resources based on scientific and psychological research to support her coaching clients during their journey with her. She ensures that ROI on every coaching assignment is clearly marked and tracked upon so as to create organization value and sustainability of results.

The essence of removing limiting beliefs and unlocking limitless potential stems from her philosophy to always:

    • Maintain mutual trust and authenticity by honoring each coaching relationship.
    • Recognize the Whole person. By being our whole selves at work, we can contribute more, and do so in a more  sustainable manner. But we also have the opportunity to learn and grow aspects of our whole self at work that otherwise would have been restrained. This benefits us in our lives  at home, in our communities, and of course at work in significant ways.

A coach and communication specialist with strong financial and technology sector experience.

“The fundamental requirement for success in improvisation is a “Yes, and” attitude.”
    Qualifications & Certifications
Master’s Degree in Chinese Studies, Johns Hopkins School of International Studies, Washington, DC
Bachelor’s Degree in Chinese and French, Indiana University, Bloomington, IN (Summa Cum Laude)
    Coaching Experience and Clients

Alison began coaching as an added service to her training clients in 2004. Over the years she has worked with individuals and management teams in a variety of industries, and has developed a particularly strong relationship with corporations in the financial and technology sectors. Her banking clients include Goldman Sachs, UBS, ING Bank, State Street Global Services and Coutts. She has also developed coaching programs for 02, Swarovski, IDC, Jabil, Mitsubishi Electric and CNBC Asia.

    Type and Style of Coaching

Alison’s coaching focus is communication. Her style is empathic and practical, encouraging frank and open discussion, and helping her clients take an active step-by-step approach to developing their understanding of communication tools and opportunities. She is called upon to help with:

    • Emotional management for more productive communication
    • Developing leadership presence
    • Confidence and creativity under pressure
    • Engaging presentation skills
    • Adapting to new responsibilities
    • Understanding and improving personality clashes
    Previous Corporate Experience

Alison established AJ Lester Communication Training soon after she came to Singapore, in 1999. She lived in Tokyo from 1991-1999, and worked as an editor for UBS Philips & Drew and BZW before shifting to freelance magazine writing and voiceover work.
Before leaving the United States for Asia, she worked as the Singapore, Malaysia and Brunei desk officer in the International Trade Administration of the United States Commerce Department.

    Specialised Industry Focus and Experience

All industries benefit from improved communication. While Alison’s current client base is primarily the financial sector, she has experience with a very broad range of businesses.

As well as offering face-to-face help with communication skills, Alison also writes on the subject. In 2009, she wrote Present for Success and co-authored Communication: Your Key to Success, both of which are part of the Success Skills Series published by Marshall Cavendish. In 2011, she produced Restroom Reflections: How Communication Changes Everything, which contains 51 essays on how we communicate with ourselves, with our loved ones, with our colleagues and clients, and with ourselves. More such essays can be read on her Restroom Reflections blog.

    Philosophy – Professional and Personal

Much of Alison’s approach to professional and personal development comes from her experience on stage. She has been acting, singing, and performing improvised comedy for many decades, and uses what she learns from her own efforts to be a more connected businesswoman, writer, performer, and family member to help others.

Another important element of her philosophy is the regular proof she sees that people benefit from learning to put more trust in their mental resources. Most of us use a fraction of our brain’s capacity – either in day-to-day management or personal emotional development – and it is Alison’s goal to encourage people to use more of their rich mental abilities.

    Life Statement/Quote

The fundamental requirement for success in improvisation is a “Yes, and” attitude. This means that you say “Yes” to whatever ideas come your way, without resistance, to see how your brain plays with them. Then you say “and,” offering what you’d add to the idea.
This attitude does wonders for personal and professional productivity, creativity, engagement, and satisfaction.

His body was wracked with pain, and he battled anxiety attacks afraid he wouldn’t reach his goal. He was facing the fear of failure head-on. It was the days thereafter, which changed his life. They not only enabled him to keep going and reach his destination but they gave him the courage to leave his successful career at Procter & Gamble, and follow his passion to become a leadership development coach.
